VCC Global Missions Prayer Guide
Theme: Following Jesus Globally Introduction to the Prayer Guide: Dear VCC Family,
As we approach Global Missions Sunday on May 4th, we are called to unite in prayer and intercession for the nations, for missionaries, and for those who have yet to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. In preparation for this special day of global missions, we are inviting our church to engage in a one-month prayer campaign.
The Four Weeks following Global Missions Sunday, we will be dedicating ourselves to praying intentionally for the needs of the world, the work of missionaries, the unreached, and the poor and oppressed. This is a holy convocation where the Church will come together to seek the Lord’s heart for the nations and to ask for His empowerment in fulfilling the Great Commission.
How We Will Pray:
-
● Weekly Focus: Each week, we will focus on specific prayer points related to global missions and the Church’s role in reaching the world.
-
● Monday Night Prayers: Prayer points will be shared to guide both individual and corporate prayer.
-
● Congregational Involvement: We invite the entire congregation to join in Monday Prayer @ 7 PM
from church, on Zoom, via WatsApp Chat Groups or your homes. Zoom links will be posted in the What’s App Chat Groups.
The Focus of Our Prayer:
-
● Week of May 4th: Praying for Missionaries and the Work They Do
-
● Week of May 11th: Praying for Unreached People Groups and Global Evangelism
-
● Week of May 18th: Praying for Humanitarian Needs and Justice Around the World
-
● Week of May 25th: Praying for the Church’s Role in Global Missions and Empowerment by the Holy
Spirit
Why We Pray:
As we see in Matthew 9:37-38, the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. We are praying for God to send laborers into His harvest field, empowering us to respond to His call to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). We believe that prayer is essential for the success of global missions, for the protection of missionaries, for the opening of hearts to the gospel, and for the provision of resources to fulfill the work.
Through our united prayers, we will prepare our hearts and our church to fully embrace Global Missions Sunday and commit to serving God’s global mission.
Join Us in Prayer:
We invite you to join us in this sacred journey of prayer as we seek God’s will for our role in global missions. Let this time of prayer bring unity within the Church, passion for the lost, and a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit as we respond to the call to follow Jesus globally.
Opening Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, recognizing Your call to go into all the world and make disciples of every nation. We thank You for the privilege of being part of Your mission. We ask for Your guidance, strength, and wisdom as we pray for the nations, the work of missionaries, and the needs of the world. Stir our hearts to respond to the call to follow Jesus globally. May Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
WEEK 1: Praying for Missionaries Worldwide
Scripture: Romans 10:14-15
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?”
Prayer Points:
-
● Pray for Strength: Pray for missionaries, both local and global, for strength in the face of challenges. Ask God to give them endurance, faith, and joy as they continue their work.
-
● Pray for Protection: Pray for the safety of missionaries in regions of conflict or danger. Ask God to protect them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
-
● Pray for Boldness: Ask the Holy Spirit to empower them with boldness to preach the gospel, especially in areas where Christ is not known.
-
● Pray for Provision: Pray that God provides financial support and resources for those serving in the mission field, and for the churches supporting them.
Scripture Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for those who have answered the call to go into the world. We ask that You strengthen, protect, and empower them to continue the work You have entrusted to them. May they be bold in sharing the gospel and may You meet all their needs as they serve You faithfully.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.WEEK 2: Praying for Unreached People Groups
Scripture: Matthew 24:14
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”Prayer Points:
● Pray for Access to the Gospel: Pray for the many people groups around the world who have not heard the gospel. Ask God to open doors for evangelism and for local believers to reach out to them.
-
● Pray for Language Barriers: Pray for missionaries to be equipped with the right tools to overcome language barriers and communicate the gospel clearly and effectively.
-
● Pray for Cultural Sensitivity: Pray for missionaries to be culturally sensitive, able to connect with people from different backgrounds and contexts.
-
● Pray for Movements of Faith: Pray for movements of faith to emerge in these unreached areas, that many would come to know Christ and His love.
Scripture Prayer:
Lord, we lift up the unreached people groups of the world. We ask that You break down barriers—both spiritual and physical—that prevent the gospel from reaching them. We pray for laborers to be sent into these fields and for the hearts of those who have never heard Your name to be opened.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.WEEK 3. Praying for Humanitarian Needs and Justice
Scripture: Isaiah 58:10
“If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”Prayer Points:
-
● Pray for the Hungry and Oppressed: Pray for those suffering from hunger, poverty, and injustice around the world. Ask God to provide for their physical needs and for the Church to rise up to meet these needs.
-
● Pray for Refugees and Displaced People: Pray for the millions of refugees who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, and natural disasters. Pray for safe shelter, provisions, and hope for a future.
-
● Pray for Justice: Ask God to bring justice to the oppressed, and for the Church to be a voice for the voiceless. Pray for peace in regions of conflict and war.
-
● Pray for Long-Term Solutions: Pray for sustainable solutions to poverty and injustice, and for the Church to be involved in bringing transformation to communities through education, healthcare, and resources.
Scripture Prayer:
Father, we ask for Your compassion to flow into the lives of those who are hungry, oppressed, and suffering around the world. Stir Your Church to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You as we seek to meet their needs. May Your love and justice shine brightly through our actions.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.WEEK 4: Praying for the Church’s Role in Global Missions

-
● Pray for a Missional Mindset: Ask God to stir the hearts of believers to see the world through His eyes and to embrace their calling to go into all the world.
Scripture Prayer:
Lord, we pray for Your Church to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to reach the nations. May we be faithful witnesses, sharing Your gospel and serving the hurting. Help us to embrace our role in global missions, seeking Your heart for the world.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the opportunity to partner with You in bringing hope, healing, and salvation to the nations. May we be faithful to the call of global missions, not only through evangelism but through meeting the needs of those who are suffering. We pray for the world, for the lost, for the oppressed, and for the Church to rise up to fulfill Your purposes.
In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
